JOB SUMMARY:
The Development Director (DD) plays a key and integral role in the success of Angels of America’s Fallen’s (Angels) fund development efforts to diversify its funding base through strategic corporate partnerships, ongoing and proactive relationship management, strategic communications plans, gifts cultivation and solicitation activity with qualified donors and qualified major gift prospects. In this role, the DD will identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors (50%), assist in planning and organizing key fundraising events (25%) and prospects (25%), acting as the primary contact between Angels and the assigned caseload, with an emphasis on securing gifts while retaining and strengthening existing giving. The DD is responsible for the marketing and corporate development efforts of Angels both locally and nationally, including gifts in kind. public relations, website/intranet maintenance and development, all marketing collateral, and company/donor presentations. The DD oversees corporate/donor surveys and retention efforts and marketing and community imaging to ensure consistency and strong branding.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in a development director role leading nonprofit fundraising efforts.
Integrity, strong ethics, and sound judgement.
Certified Fund Raising Executive certification preferred.
Bachelor’s degree or comparable experienced.
Team player, able to check ego at the door, with an ability to collaborate effectively with officers, staff and volunteers for successful achievement of position and department goals.
Must embrace, support and reflect well on Angels’ mission and values through one’s professional responsibilities and behavior at all times.
Overall commitment to honor the sacrifices of military and first responder families.
Effective interpersonal, conversational and presentation skills, demonstrating emotional intelligence, situational awareness, excellent writing abilities and strong case development and pitching skills.
Proven expertise in developing and maintaining positive relationships with diverse individuals, including executives, leadership volunteers and wealthy donors, as well as internal stakeholders and leadership.
The selected individual should enjoy problem solving, think strategically and creatively, and take initiative with good follow through.
A high level of comfort with direct donor interaction is a must, including discussions of personal and family finances and asking for financial commitments.
Experience and skills in proposal writing, grant writing, media relations as well as strong networking and lead development skills.
Knowledge and interest in both marketing and business development.
Willingness and ability to travel regularly. Valid Driver’s License required.
Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment without extensive admin support. Must be highly organized and able to effectively manage multiple projects and competing priorities with professionalism and grace. Must keep good documentation through contact reports and activity tracking, using CRM software.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Develop national strategic corporate partnerships.
Oversee development staff of two full time and one part time, with the potential for staff growth.
Responsibility for the marketing and corporate development efforts of Angels both locally and nationally, including gifts in kind.
Work with the CEO to develop and write Strategic Plans, Development Plans and Marketing Plans.
Responsibility for lead tracking, generating and maintenance.
Team with the CEO on proposals, grants, public relations, website/intranet maintenance and development, all marketing collateral, and company/donor presentations.
Oversee corporate/donor surveys and retention efforts.
Network heavily with professional associations that support the goals of Angels to obtain qualified leads and knowledge of emerging markets as related to development.
Involvement in Angels’ overall internal and external marketing and community imaging to ensure consistency and strong branding.
Overall support for the operations and strategy of Angels.
Participate in strategic planning, implementation tactics and goal-setting for the organization as a whole.
Teach presentation skills, goal-setting and business development skills internally to key positions.
Coach project teams for presentations and corporate outreach.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS:
Use office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, scanners, calculators, smartphone, etc.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This is primarily a remote position with digital meetings via Teams and Zoom, and periodically in person as required.
