Willie Murphy Jr.

Willie L. Murphy Jr. (Command Sergeant Major Retired) is a native of Chesapeake, Virginia and enlisted in the Army National Guard on May 1988, and into the United States Army Active Duty in September 1992. He served 33 years and 7 months of total service and retired as a Command Sergeant Major. He owns and operates two real estate related business Colorado Springs, Colorado.  

He graduated from Basic Combat Training and One Station Unit training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma as a 13B Cannon crewmember, Willie held numerous leadership positions to include: Paladin Howitzer Section Chief, 1st Battalion, 41st Field Artillery, 1st Battalion, 41st Field Artillery, Platoon Sergeant, 1st Battalion, 41st Field Artillery, Gunnery Sergeant, United States Military Academy, West Point, Tactical Non-Commissioned Officer, 4th Infantry Division, G35 Plans/Operation Sergeant, 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery Regiment, First Sergeant, 2nd Battalion 3rd Field Artillery Regiment Command Sergeant Major, and Chief Military Science Instructor, The South Carolina Military College (The Citadel). He served in: 1st Armored Division, 2D Infantry Division, 3D Infantry Division, 4th Infantry Division, United States Military Academy, and United States Army Cadet Command. 

Willie’s stateside assignments included Fort Lewis Washington, Fort Stewart, Georgia, United State Military Academy, West Point, New York, Fort Carson, Colorado, Fort Bliss, Texas, and Charleston, South Carolina  His overseas assignments included Egypt, Camp Casey, Korea, and Fort Wainwright, Alaska.  My deployments include Intrinsic Action, Operation Iraqi Freedom (x3), Operation Enduring Freedom (Spartan Shield), Kuwait (x2), and Afghanistan (Resolute Resolve).

Willie’s military education includes Basic Leader’s Course, Advanced Leader’s Course, Senior Leader’s Course, Master Resilience Leaders Course, Battle Staff Course, Master Fitness Course, Uniform 6 Course, Unit Movement Officers Course, Hazmat Course, Army retention Course, Combat Lifesaver’s Course, First Sergeant Course, Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education Course, selection to the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy Class 66, and various other professional development courses.  He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Marketing and a Masters of Science degree in Organizational Leadership with a second concentration in Human Resources. 

Willie’s awards and decorations include: the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (2 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (4 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (1 OLC), Army Commendation Medal w/V device, Army Achievement Medal 1 Silver OLC w/1 OLC), Assault Badge, Combat Action Badge, and various deployment and campaign ribbons.  He is a member of the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara. 

Willie worked on the Board of Directors for Scholarship at The Citadel where he advised the board on scholarship payments in excess of $30,000,000. He volunteered countless hours in Cornwall/Newburgh, NY and Charleston, SC with Habitat for Humanity to build homes for Fallen Soldiers families.

Willie owns and operates two real estate related business Colorado Springs, Colorado. He resides in Colorado Springs, Colorado with his wife of 32 years, Lisa M. Murphy of Portsmouth, Virginia.
